I was born in 1973 in San Diego, California. I moved to Minnesota in high achool, and I attended Concordia University in Mequon. At Concordia, I graduated with an elementary teaching degree and a minor in Early Childhood education. I am slowly working towards my Masters degree in Early Childhood education at Concordia.
I have always taught preschool since I graduated in 1995. I love being a child's first teacher, and I love to see their sparks of ideas as we explore new concepts. I believe that play is the best way to teach a young child. God has wired them to learn, and they will do it with or without me. Play allows them time to communicate and to work on social skills. Play does not mean that learning is not happening. Play is the vehicle that allows children to understand a concept and the world around them. My students do not spend their day doing worksheets. We spend our day being active. I try to use the forest classroom and the nature trails as much as possible. Not all children like to be inside all day. Many need time and space to explore and investigate. My students will be prepared for Kindergarten, but we do it with a lot less paper work and a lot of time spent outside.
Mrs. Hug is a graduate of UW-Whitewater and a native of Waukesha. She joined Christ the Life's staff in August of 2009. She earned her Early Childhood I and Early Childhood II certificates and is also certified in Adult/Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid. On an annual basis, she attends numerous continuing education classes, Teaching the Faith seminars, and a Literacy Festival at Concordia University. She enjoys helping Mr. Boris and watching the students transform before her eyes. Three- and four-year olds make everyday a new and interesting experience, which is why her job is so fun and enjoyable. Mrs. Hug lives in Waukesha and is married to Matt. They have a son, Tyler, and a daughter, Allison - both alumni of Christ the Life! She enjoys gardening, cooking, the summers in WI (minus the bugs), and being a cheerleader at her children's sporting events.
