Swine Flu

As cases of swine flu increase during the school year, I wanted to share with you the measures that we take here at Christ the Life to limit the spread of diseases with our students.  Our tables and furniture are washed several times a day with a Hydrogen Peroxide or a restaurant grade sanitizer.  Our toys are washed as often as needed with a quat disinfectant.  We are also teaching the children proper hand washing techniques.  We encourage the children to get soap in one hand and water in the other.  We then want them to scrub their hands until they are nice and bubbly.  Then we rinse and dry.   Please be very careful sending your child to school with the start of a cold.  We require children to be fever free for 24 hours before your child will be allowed to come back to school after an illness.  If your child is starting to run a fever, please do not send them.  If your child is sent home from school with a fever, he or she will not be allowed to come to childcare the next day because of our 24-hour fever free rule.

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders

We hope that most of you are getting into the flow during drop off and pick up time with your child.  During pick up time, please be mindful of those who are waiting in line to pick up their child.  Once your child is sent out to you, please buckle them up and move ahead.  Spontaneous conversations between parents as you pick up your child can slow down the pick up process for those waiting in line.  Please continue your conversations in the parking lot after you have secured your child and parked in the lot.

In the Building Pickup Issues

Parents who pick up their child in the building can make pick up more confusing for our staff.  We are trying to keep our classes together as we walk from the rooms to the school entrance.  If you are in the activity room waiting for your child, your child will want to run to you as soon as they see you.  This makes it very difficult to know where each child is during this.  We are also responsible for knowing whom each child is released to.  If you do not want to wait in the line of cars to pick up your child, please wait until after 11:30 a.m. to walk up to the school entrance.  We would like to limit parents waiting in the school entrance hallway because the hallway can get very congested very quickly.  We would also ask that parents not wait in the Activity Room outside the classrooms.  This will help us as we train our students where to go during pick up.  If you have any questions about this, please see Mr. Boris.

Seat Belts

Please remember that our school staff are mandatory reporters for child abuse and neglect.  Please make sure that your child is properly belted in a car seat as you drive away.  We don’t want to see any child turn around and wave to us as you drive by (Yes, this happens more than you would think).

Old Cell Phone Fundraiser

There is a collection box in the school entranceway for old cell phones and chargers.  Any old contact info on the phone will be erased.  Old phones will either be recycled or refurbished.  A company will give us money for the cell phones that we collect.  Newer phones will be worth more money but any type of cell phone can be turned in.  Time to check your closet for the old brick cell phone or the bag phone from the 80’s.  Money collected will go towards a second computer project for Mrs. Stoltenberg’s room.

Campbell’s Soup Labels, Pick’N Save, Sentry and Target Receipts

The school participates in rebate programs from the above vendors.  We have a box for the Campbell’s labels in our school entrance.  Please see the last page for examples.  If you shop at any of the above stores, you can help out our school.  If you have a Pick’N Save swiper card, you can register it with our school’s number (116700) and we get 1% of all purchases made.  The customer desk can help you register your card.  Sentry receipts can be turned in to our school and we receive 1% of the receipt’s totals.  You will have to take your receipt to the customer desk and have them put a Funds for Friends sticker on the receipt.  Only certain area Sentry stores do this.  Store information is located on the same table as the Campbell’s labels.  If you have a Target credit card, you can register it with our school and we will get a portion of money from the purchase.  If you have any questions about this, please see Mr. Boris.  We do not collect box tops or milk lids.  These programs are for schools Kindergarten and above.

Space Night 2009

We are planning on Friday, October 2 for our annual telescope, star viewing, and wear a glow in the dark thing on your shirt night.  The moon will be almost full.  We need some help and the following items for space night:
  • Telescopes
  • Help with telescopes during space night
  • Help with art projects
  • Help at the end with cleaning
If you can help operate a telescope during space night, your main jobs will be to keep them pointed at Jupiter or the Moon as they move across the night sky and showing young children how to view the.  I (Mr. Boris) usually do this with my telescope but I would also like to be able to move around, see what is happening and answer questions from families.  If you could help out with any of these areas, please let me know.  If you have a telescope that we could use, please let me know.  Last year, the space station went over at the end of space night and many of the families thought that was the best part of the night.  I will do my best to launch a rocket into the sky this year.  Space night will start at sunset.

Fall Clothing

Please remember to label your child’s hats, coats and personal items.  We see a lot of duplicate items with our children and labeling will help us when your child does not remember what their items looks like.  When you break out the fall coats and winter coats, many children can’t recognize their items for the first couple of days.

Bible Study Opportunity for School Families

We are starting a Tuesday morning Bible study where members and school families can participate.  We will be opening our childcare for those who need it so that they can attend our Bible Study.  Childcare will be free for children ages 2 ½-5, but we will need our regular paperwork filled out of each child and a schedule of what Tuesdays childcare will be needed.  See Mrs. Stoltenberg with any questions. If you have any questions or prayer requests, please feel free to stop in and see Pastor Eric anytime.
